About Kemenuh Village

Kemenuh village is a part of the Sukawati sub-district, Gianyar Regency – Bali, with a population about 4,000 people. The total area of Kemenuh village is 734ha and divided by its functionality, which is 75ha for residential, 205ha for ricefield, 235ha for plantations, and others, such as public facilities, roads, and places of worship with an area are of 218ha.

Some of the agriculture areas are used for planting crops and paddy, some are for soybeans, cassava, sweet potatoes and peanuts. Most vegetables planted in this village are chili, tomato, chickpea and red onion. While for plantation, mostly are from coconut, then coffee, clove and vanilla, and for livestock are chicken, duck, pig, cow and goat.

This village is divided into 11 Banjar Dinas. Banjar is the smallest area of the Balinese village, which is one of the Balinese cultural heritage. As a matter of fact, the banjar have existed since the 11th century referred to as banua or wanua, meaning village now. In the past, banjar was used as a gathering place for creativity and activity, as a learning place for a community in a banjar. It is where the Balinese learn their customs and traditions hereditariness or a place for exchanging ideas and managing the environment or community at the time.

Now the function of banjar has begun to shift. Banjar used more for meetings (sangkep) to discuss the contributions of its residents, regulate social life, formal or informal religious events.

To receive education, people have shifted to the formal schools provided by the government and private sectors. Even in big cities in Bali, the function of Banjar today is as the economic center, by renting the banjar for community trade and for other business purposes.
